This is the fiber behind Colombia's most iconic object, the sombrero vueltiao. For over a thousand years, the Zenú communities of Córdoba and Sucre on Colombia's Caribbean coast have harvested it, dried it, split it into thin strips and braided it by hand. The process is slow, a single fine piece can take weeks.

Everyone knows the hat. Almost nobody knows the fiber.

At Katünaa, we work with Zenú artisans to take caña flecha somewhere completely new! Floor pillows and ottomans. The same tight, geometric braid that makes a hat, you can now find in your living room.
