Plantain fiber isn’t something most people think of when they picture design.

It’s a natural fiber extracted from the stalks of the plantain tree, a plant that grows abundantly in Colombia’s warm, tropical and subtropical regions.

After each harvest, the stalks, which are usually discarded, are carefully cleaned, stripped, and sun dried. What’s left are strong, flexible fibers known for their remarkable durability and resistance, giving them new life beyond the fields!

When woven by hand, plantain fiber transforms into a material that feels both raw and refined.

In our plantain fiber mochila bags, we paired this natural fiber with copper thread, creating a subtle dialogue between earthy and metallic, traditional and modern.
